Assessment and Evaluation
At the Center for Student Wellbeing, we use data to better understand both the strengths and challenges that shape student wellbeing at Emory. In partnership with the Office of Institutional Research and Decision Support, we regularly collect and analyze both quantitative and qualitative data to inform our work—and to support the well-being efforts of other offices and the broader campus community.
We believe that student voices, along with the perspectives of staff and faculty, are essential to doing this work well. That’s why we also conduct interviews and focus groups to gain deeper insight into the lived experiences of our community.
In addition to collecting data, we evaluate our programs and services to understand their impact and continually strengthen what we offer.
Below are some of the tools we use in this work.
American College Health Association – National College Health Assessment (ACHA-NCHA)
A nationally recognized research survey that collects data on a wide range of health and wellbeing topics. Participating in ACHA-NCHA allows Emory to comprehensively understand student health and wellbeing as well as compare results to ACHA-NCHA's national database.
HMS is a nationally recognized mental health survey that is administered in partnership with the Healthy Minds Network to examine students’ mental health, service utilization, and other related topics.
Wellbeing Improvement Survey for Higher Education Settings (WISHES)
WISHES is a brief survey developed by the Action Network for Equitable Wellbeing (ANEW) that measures wellbeing indicators such as flourishing, belonging, and life satisfaction. WISHES was first implemented in spring 2025.
