Sexual Health

Sexuality is a natural and varied part of human life. When approached thoughtfully and safely, it can become a positive and enriching expression. Sexual health and sexuality go beyond just sexual activity; they also involve body care, reproduction, contraception, pleasure, relationships, communication, decision-making, boundaries, sensuality, and sexual orientation and identity. We are all socialized to sex and sexuality via our upbringing, our cultures, our religion, our region, media and many more factors and we want everyone to gain the skills to be authentic and well in their interactions.

Safer Sex Strategies

Safer Sex isn’t just condoms, barriers and STI’s, it’s about being authentic to your wants and needs and engaging with people and activities in meaningful ways. Exploration is a part of the human experience and to explore safely, you can:

  • Understand your personal views on sex and sexuality.
  • Set your own boundaries and respect them.
  • Openly communicate your expectations with your partner(s) regarding sex, including the importance of consent.
  • Choose to engage in sober sex.
  • Use your preferred barrier or contraceptive method consistently and correctly.

Sex Communication

Good communication with a partner is key to sexual well-being. It can be as simple as a “yes” or "no,” and it can also be as complex as “when you touch me there, it brings up certain feelings and I would like to share that...” We understand that everyone comes to understand their sexual wellbeing differently and have different approaches to conversations and the Center for Student Wellbeing is here to help you navigate the conversation through resources and talking with a sexual health educator.
